Monticello’s 65th Annual Watermelon Festival………….. June 19 & 20, 2015

Summer is here, and for residents and visitors of downtown Monticello, that means it’s time for the Jefferson County Annual Watermelon Festival. This year’s festival will be held Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20, and will mark 65 years this popular and time-honored event has taken place.

The festival offers two days of fun-filled activities that can be enjoyed by the entire family. There are enough arts and craft booths to keep you busy all day, along with music, children’s theater, a 5K run, car show, seed spitting contest, an art show, a softball tournament, parade, street dance and nightly ghost tours where you can see and hear all about Monticello’s famous haunted landmarks. Take your time and browse it all without worry of being hungry because there will be a variety of food vendors as well as local restaurants to choose from, a beer garden and of course, plenty of watermelon supplied by Jefferson County’s watermelon growers.

Plan to visit historic Monticello on June 19th and 20th for some great summer fun. Enjoy the festival’s entertainment and activities, do a little shopping, eat some good food, and before leaving, be sure to pick up a sweet Jefferson County watermelon to take home.
