Main Street of Monticello will be holding their first Sharing Water Conference scheduled for October 2, 3, 4, 2014 in the Monticello Opera House. This conference is patterned after the award winning First Floridians Conference presented in 2012.

The Sharing Water Conference will attract experts and laymen alike to discuss the future of the Floridan Aquifer. Public discussions on protecting this important resource will continue and grow in the next few years. The conference will bring together interested and involved voices from the three affected areas and will result in an exchange of information that will encourage cooperation. A goal for the conference is an informed and interested public that will support thoughtful planning by our leaders. Conference speakers and many attendees are employed in water management, agriculture and industry. Conference Dates & Schedule of Events

Conference Dates: 10/2/2014 – 10/4/2014
The conference, to be held in the historic Monticello Opera House, is one in a series of annual conferences held in Monticello, addressing critical contemporary issues. This conference will address the question of water supply for the growing world population, using the Floridan Aquifer as an example. This issue is especially appropriate for its location in the Big Bend area of Florida, surrounded by wetlands, numerous springs and pristine rivers. In the words of a recent USFWS publication, “This region is primarily defined by water: surface water, ground water, and rivers that transition into estuaries and eventually the salt waters of the Gulf of Mexico.”
